As the year draws to a close I’ve been thinking of all the people who’ve hosted workshops this year and/or given me a bed for the night when I was working away from home. Thank you for the late night chats, the inspiring breakfast conversations, the clean towels, the freshly made beds, the hot showers, the delicious breakfasts, the picking up and dropping off at stations, the care taken to make sure I’ve got everything I need for my workshop and the posting back of things I’ve left behind (Jane Harris!). THANK YOU: Kathy Somers, my home from home in Glasgow; Fiona and Nick Mills-Carlyon in Stroud for hosting a wonderful recording weekend; Jane Read for the wholesome breakfasts and the trip to Ludlow on Sunday morning; Ali Robertson and the Angus crowd – never enough tissues!; Sheelagh Neil in your stunning new house; my Mum, who cheerfully puts me up whenever I need to break a long journey home from the North of Scotland; Anni Tracy who helped me through a difficult weekend and chauffeured me around in her vintage VW Beetle; Anne MacLeod who fed me quails eggs on toast and asparagus for breakfast; Jess Baker and her EXCELLENT coffee; Jane Harris in Bath – I’ve had to start buying my own chocolate coated rice cakes!; Hannah Lawrence in her beautiful hand built house with what seemed like 100 hand carved wooden spoons; Roxanne Smith for the excellent company and the whizz round the charity shops of Shrewsbury; Hilary Bell for the lovely meal; and last but not least to Ros, Lyssa and Liz – the Edinburgh triumvirate who’ve all put me up this year and all make me feel like family – in a good way!
