Well – that wasn’t much of a summer weather-wise…it’s been blustery and rainy and chilly for weeks and I can’t remember another year when I had to light the wood stove in August to see us through the evening. But in other ways it’s been immense. I’ve done 5 residential singing events this summer and have loved every one of them. I’ve always known in my head and heart that singing is just the best way to build a tight knit community quickly and powerfully but seeing that in action over and over in a short space of time made that knowledge drop deeper and more profoundly into my psyche. To the 35 of us who met on Skye in the beautiful Floddigary Hostel to celebrate Brendan Taaffe’s 10 years of Turtle Dove workshops with Brendan, John Harrison and myself; the wonderful people of SongTribe choir who got up to much shenanigans in a castle near Dundee; my brilliant camping circle and workshop singers at Voicecamp and being part of such an awesome 30 strong teaching team); the lovely heart filled weekend of song at Wiston Lodge with Kate Howard and Caroline Price; Irene Watt’s very special group of singers in Aberdeenshire; and lastly celebrating 20 years of singing together last weekend were the Dot Crochets from Lancaster staying over at the stunning Derwentwater hostel in the Lake Distict: Thank you all for sharing your voices, stories, songs, laughter and kindness. Let’s do it again sometime!
