SUMMARY:GOLDEN OLDIES at Cannon Frome Court Community
DESCRIPTION:I’m so excited about this workshop and  diving into my back catalogue of over 500 workshop songs and choosing some of my favourites – many of them not well known as I tend to write a new bank of songs for each year’s workshops and have been doing that for a long time now. Expect to sing some favourite rounds\, partner songs and one or two longer songs. Some you may know\, some not at all. I may even send out some learning files before the weekend so you can have a listen and familiarise yourself with your part before you come – no pressure though – everything will be taught from scratch. \nThe hospitality at Cannon Frome is always amazing – fresh coffee and home made cakes and a glorious soup and salad lunch. There’s some indoor accommodation available and room to camp or park a campervan with access to showers for a small fee. SUMMARY:EarthSpirit 2026 (near Glastonbury)
DESCRIPTION:The EarthSpirit Centre near Glastonbury in Somerset is one of my favourite UK venues.  The hall is beautiful for singing\, there’s a good range of accommodation to suit everyone\, it’s accessible\, the food is great and the staff are lovely!  So come along and join Anna Tabbush\, Jenni Fisk and myself from the 12th to 16th April for a big blast of harmony singing to blow away the winter cobwebs. The event will begin on Sunday evening at 6pm and finish at 3pm on Thursday. \nAll prices include meals\, tuition and our own private access to the hot tub and sauna. \n  \nBooking and Cancellations:\nTo book your place\, please pay a deposit of £100 below\,  £15 of which is non returnable. Jess\, who’s on admin for this event\, will then contact you with bank details of where to pay the full amount\, which is due by the 1st February 2026. Full refunds (minus the £15 non refundable admin fee) are available until 1st February 2026. If you cancel between the 1st Feb and the 7th March 2026 I’ll refund 50% of the total fee and after the 7th March 2026 there are no refunds unless I can fill your place from the waiting list – if so\, I’m happy to give you a full refund (minus the £15 non returnable fee).

DESCRIPTION:Last year’s Winter Warmer was such an exceptional weekend with Ben and Dom that I’ve invited them back for another workshop. This event has become one of the highlights in my singing year. It takes place in the glorious Columcille Centre in Edinburgh and you singers are always such a delightful and warm group of people. Hannah treats us to amazing spreads for lunch and Rachel will be bringing some of her exceptional home baking. I’ve had to put the price up a little – everything gone up so much in the last couple of years – but I’m hoping it’s still affordable.

DESCRIPTION:There have been a few cancellations for this event so you’re very likely to get a ticket if you put your name on the waiting list. We’ll be in touch within a couple of days if you do. \nThe Hereford workshop this year filled up so quickly that we’ve put on another one in October! Join myself\, Ali Burns\, and the marvellous Jennie Fisk at Steiner Academy Hereford\, where there is a gorgeous hall with great acoustics surrounded by beautiful countryside\, for a weekend of singing on the 11th and 12th October 2025. \nOn both Saturday and Sunday registration is from 9.45am. Singing will start at 10.15am and the day ends at 4pm. A delicious lunch each day will be laid on and there is the opportunity to camp overnight at the venue for a small additional fee. We are able to cater for vegans\, vegetarians and people who are gluten free and dairy free. It’s not always possible to cater safely for other food allergies\, so in that case you may have to bring your own lunch – but do let us know if that might be the case and we’ll see what we can do. \nEarly bird tickets (available until 1st August) will cost £110 and thereafter tickets will be £120.  The price includes a freshly cooked lunch and all refreshments\, but not accommodation. If you fancy bringing a cake for tea breaks please feel free. We can’t wait to enjoy a weekend of original compositions\, singing and good company with you. \n

DESCRIPTION:News! I’m afraid that the venue for this workshop has had to change. We’ll now be at Saxon Hall – a very similar venue near to the Steiner Academy. DESCRIPTION:I’m really looking forward to this workshop in Koudekerk aan den Rijn\, a little village in the west of the Netherlands. We’ll be singing some old Ali Burns favourites along with some new easy songs in the beautiful and atmospheric church\, Brugkerk. I’ll be teaching mostly by ear with my usual big sheets of words but I’ll provide music for anyone who wants. \n\nDoors will be open Saturday morning from 9.30 am and we’ll aim to start at 10.00 am. There will be a coffee break at some point in the morning and lunch at around 1pm. We’ve ordered a vegetarian lunch on both days (with options for anyone who is vegan and/or gluten free).   On Sunday we will start at 12 pm and the end around 4pm. But leave your name on the waiting list below and if a space becomes available I’ll get in touch.  \nMy favourite Winter Warmer Workshop returns to the Columcille Centre in Edinburgh this year where Jennie Frisk and I will be joined by Ben and Dom for a weekend of glorious harmony singing. Here’s a stolen paragraph from their website so you can get a glimpse of their style. And here’s a link to some gorgeous videos so you can hear a little of what you’re in for. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBen & Dom are a singing duo from south London. Ben takes the high notes and Dom takes the low notes (most of the time). The intricate blend of their harmonies comes from a close friendship and shared love of singing together. They weave their voices around songs old and new\, performing original material alongside new interpretations of folk songs. Their lyrics touch on friendship\, nature and what it means for two men to sing together in this modern day. \nBen and Dom are experienced choir leaders and community musicians. Core to this collaboration is sharing their love of group singing and encouraging others to join their voices together in harmony. Their busy workshop schedule includes running the Cambridge Festival choir\, courses at Halsway Manor and collaborating and with choirs and singers around the UK.  \nJennie and I will be joining Ben and Dom and sharing some new material – short songs with lush harmonies and words to harbour the senses. \nAnd of course the BARGAIN EARLYBIRD PRICE of £100 (until 1st Jan 2025 – thereafter £120) includes a fabulous lunch from Hannah as well as tea\, coffee and home-made cake. DESCRIPTION:Last year 70 fabulous singers met in the big hall at the Birnam hotel for an outstanding weekend of good craic and great singing in one of the most beautiful towns in Scotland – just as the autumn colours were at their height. It was an unforgettable weekend and we immediately booked the hotel so we could do it all again this year! \nThe workshop grew out of the Harmony Singing workshops at the Adult Fèis in Ullapool which I’ve been lucky enough to lead over the years. And when I say lucky\, I mean really extraordinarily lucky because the group of singers who regularly go to this event are just an amazing group of humans and great singers taboot. And because we’ve sung so many great songs together over the years we decided to have a weekend to re-learn some of them.  The event is now open to anyone who fancies an amazing weekend of intense singing with some stand out bass singers! \nThe price will include teas\, coffees and lunch at the Birnam Hotel but not accommodation.
