DESCRIPTION:News! I’m afraid that the venue for this workshop has had to change. We’ll now be at Saxon Hall – a very similar venue near to the Steiner Academy. However\, we’ve had to change the times a little to make it all work. So we’ll begin singing at 11.45 on Saturday and end around 5.30. Sunday times will be the same as normal: 10 am – 4pm. \nYou ticket will still cover a freshly cooked lunch and all refreshments. It will also still be possible to camp overnight at Steiner Academy Hereford. \n

DESCRIPTION:I’m really looking forward to this workshop in Koudekerk aan den Rijn\, a little village in the west of the Netherlands. We’ll be singing some old Ali Burns favourites along with some new easy songs in the beautiful and atmospheric church\, Brugkerk. I’ll be teaching mostly by ear with my usual big sheets of words but I’ll provide music for anyone who wants. \n\nDoors will be open Saturday morning from 9.30 am and we’ll aim to start at 10.00 am. There will be a coffee break at some point in the morning and lunch at around 1pm. We’ve ordered a vegetarian lunch on both days (with options for anyone who is vegan and/or gluten free).   On Sunday we will start at 12 pm and the end around 4pm. But leave your name on the waiting list below and if a space becomes available I’ll get in touch.  \nMy favourite Winter Warmer Workshop returns to the Columcille Centre in Edinburgh this year where Jennie Frisk and I will be joined by Ben and Dom for a weekend of glorious harmony singing. Here’s a stolen paragraph from their website so you can get a glimpse of their style. And here’s a link to some gorgeous videos so you can hear a little of what you’re in for. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBen & Dom are a singing duo from south London. Ben takes the high notes and Dom takes the low notes (most of the time). The intricate blend of their harmonies comes from a close friendship and shared love of singing together. They weave their voices around songs old and new\, performing original material alongside new interpretations of folk songs. Their lyrics touch on friendship\, nature and what it means for two men to sing together in this modern day. \nBen and Dom are experienced choir leaders and community musicians. Core to this collaboration is sharing their love of group singing and encouraging others to join their voices together in harmony. Their busy workshop schedule includes running the Cambridge Festival choir\, courses at Halsway Manor and collaborating and with choirs and singers around the UK.  \nJennie and I will be joining Ben and Dom and sharing some new material – short songs with lush harmonies and words to harbour the senses. \nAnd of course the BARGAIN EARLYBIRD PRICE of £100 (until 1st Jan 2025 – thereafter £120) includes a fabulous lunch from Hannah as well as tea\, coffee and home-made cake. DESCRIPTION:Last year 70 fabulous singers met in the big hall at the Birnam hotel for an outstanding weekend of good craic and great singing in one of the most beautiful towns in Scotland – just as the autumn colours were at their height. It was an unforgettable weekend and we immediately booked the hotel so we could do it all again this year! \nThe workshop grew out of the Harmony Singing workshops at the Adult Fèis in Ullapool which I’ve been lucky enough to lead over the years. And when I say lucky\, I mean really extraordinarily lucky because the group of singers who regularly go to this event are just an amazing group of humans and great singers taboot. And because we’ve sung so many great songs together over the years we decided to have a weekend to re-learn some of them.  The event is now open to anyone who fancies an amazing weekend of intense singing with some stand out bass singers! \nThe price will include teas\, coffees and lunch at the Birnam Hotel but not accommodation.

DESCRIPTION:Big DRUMROLL please………….because I’m delighted to announce that Lea Morris from Braunschweig\, Germany AND Helen Lyle from Sheffield will be joining Jennie Fisk and me for this totally joyous and eagerly awaited annual event. Lea’s song’s have taken the UK community singing world by storm since her first workshop tour in 2023 after taking part in the Natural Voice Network’s Black Lives Matter Commissioning project with her stunning song Lifting As We Climb. This is you chance to really immerse yourself in her beautiful\, soulful work. You can read more about her here. \nHelen Lyle co-leads Sheffield’s big community choir Purple Cats and brings a light touch and a wealth of teaching and performing experience to the team. It promises to be a great event. \nThe venue is Wiston Lodge – originally a Victorian Hunting Lodge – nestled in the hills near Biggar in the south of Scotland. It’s a great venue\, with a wooden hut added onto the main house\, which is ideal for singing. However\, there are no single ensuite rooms so if that kind of privacy is important to you we suggest you get a nearby BnB or camp. Tents\, caravans and camper vans are all welcome and there are new showers for campers in the on-site Education Suite. \nRooms will be allocated on a first come first served basis. \nTo book: Select either a deposit (residential and singers staying off-site but attending the whole event) or day ticket at the bottom of the page and click ‘get tickets’. Then\, fill out the required booking information including room choice\, and make your payment. If you are staying at Wiston Lodge\, your room will be confirmed when we send out invoices for the final balance\, normally around 3 months before the event. We will contact you if we can’t offer either your first or second choice. \n\nPrice per person: \nSmall room – Shared (£550 pp)\nSmall room as single (£760)\nThe small rooms have a double and a single bed and are ideal for couples or friends to share. \n\nCabin room – Shared (£550 pp)\nCabin room – as a single room (£730 pp) \nEach cabin has 2 bedrooms with a shared toilet/shower room between. Each cabin has a bunkbed and a single. We only sell them as rooms for 2 as there is limited storage space for 3. \n\nShared room with ensuite (£650 pp)\nThere are 2 of these rooms each with 4 or 5 beds. \n\nMen’s dorm (£550 pp)\nWomen’s dorm (£550 pp)\nThe shared dorms have 4 or 5 bunk beds – we only use the bottom bunks – and a nearby toilet. \n\nCamping (£430 pp)\nUnlimited room for tents\, camper vans and caravans. Please note there is no power hook-up available. \n\nNon-residential (£380 pp)\nStay in the village or nearby Abbington\, Leadhills or Biggar. \n\nTicket for one day (£90 pp) \n\nNB: The deposit is £100 for all places except day tickets which should be paid in full. \n\nRefunds\nIf you cancel before 1st June 2024 we’ll refund your ticket (minus a £20 admin and bank charge fee). If you cancel between 1st June and 1st August we’ll refund your ticket minus the deposit price (£120). Unless we can fill your place in which case we’re happy to refund your fees (minus a £20 admin and bank charge fee). If you have to cancel in August you’ll loose 50% of your fee – unless we can fill your place.
