DESCRIPTION:I’m so delighted to announce this workshop with one of my favourite contemporary composers and workshop leaders.  John Mark Harrison from the US is an absolute delight to work with and if you haven’t experienced his workshops I recommend you book a place quickly!  John writes and arranges a wide range of contemporary American music including his own stunning compositions such as Panther; Many Many Waters; Cameron; Grateful.  I’ll be joining John and adding a couple of contrasting pieces into the mix but it will mainly be him leading. \nOnce again Hannah is going to provide her spectacular lunches and that’s all included in the price along with tea/coffee. You’ll be emailed nearer the event regarding access issues and dietary information.

DESCRIPTION:I can’t remember the last time I did a workshop in Glasgow so this will be a real treat. The day will feature some of my best loved songs with a loose theme of Community Resilience. It’ll be upbeat and celebratory! We’ll be singing in harmony and everything will be taught at a pace to support learning by ear although written music will be available to take home. \nThe venue is modern and warm with great acoustics and although I’ve never been there I can guarantee we’ll have a great day of singing and community and warmth in the middle of winter. Teas/coffee\, cake and lunch are all included in the price. Bargain! \nChoose what you can afford when you come to buy your ticket. \n  \nPublic transport: It’s a 20 minute walk from Glasgow Central station; 10 minute walk from Bridge Street Subway; buses from Glasgow Central to Bedford Lane (by Citizens Theatre) then 8 minute walk;  buses from the Southside of Glasgow either stopping at Bridge Street Subway or Bedford Lane; Parking: There is limited on-street parking nearby and a small amount of free parking directly by the Gorbals Parish Church. Be aware that there is a fee to park in the co-op car park next to Gorbals Parish Church and you may be fined for leaving your car parked and not paying for parking.

So it was an amazing moment when\, at last\, in June 2022 we met in East Linton at The Mart – the old cattle mart\, now transformed as an events venue. \nI was joined by Neil Squires (bass) and Christine Carson (piano) and the morning exceeded our expectations. The singing was glorious as were the acoustics of The Mart. And it was all topped off by the great addition of fresh coffee and home-made cakes. No better way to spend a Saturday morning! So come join us for Octobers’s Gathering and join the fun. PLEASE NOTE that at the time of writing the venue for October is not definite. DESCRIPTION:Oh\, I love this weekend! Each year we have a great couple of days singing our hearts out. Jennie Fisk\, my co-leader\, gets to join me on her home ground for once and it’s become a regular fixture in our singing calendar – although it’s not always at the same time of year.  Come join us – it’s nice big room so there’s room for about 70 without being too squashed. The hall is light and airy and opens onto a patio for sitting out at lunchtime. Since the pandemic I’ve been asking everyone to bring a packed lunch but I’ll still provide teas and coffee. And if you’d like to bring some home baking to share I’m sure no-one would object! DESCRIPTION:SongTribe opens the doors to anyone to come along and try out the choir for the second of our ‘taster’ evenings. Nothing to pay unless you decide to join. This term we’ll be singing some gorgeous new arrangements and songs and rehearsing towards a 12th Night Concert on 6th January. And for the first 2 nights of term I’ll be demonstrating how we work so you can get a flavour of the group and see if you think it’s right for you. \nWe’re particularly looking for Sopranos this term. And when I use the term Soprano\, it’s not in the classical music sense. In a community choir we don’t sing very high or low – all the arrangements are crafted to sit within a certain ‘comfort zone’ for your voice. And if you don’t know what you sing just come along and try it out – you’ll be most welcome. The doors open at 6.30pm for tea biscuits and a bit of chat\, then we begin singing at 7pm with a warm up. \n“All my life I’ve loved the way that singing and songs can raise you up and make you feel better about being alive; the way that the right song at the right time can make you feel human and connected to the world. SongTribe is special. DESCRIPTION:SongTribe opens the doors to anyone to come along and try out the choir for a ‘taster’ evening. Nothing to pay unless you decide to join. This term we’ll be singing some gorgeous new arrangements and songs and rehearsing towards a 12th Night Concert on 6th January. And for the first 2 nights of term I’ll be demonstrating how we work so you can get a flavour of the group and see if you think it’s right for you. \nWe’re particularly looking for Sopranos this term. And when I use the term Soprano\, it’s not in the classical music sense. In a community choir we don’t sing very high or low – all the arrangements are crafted to sit within a certain ‘comfort zone’ for your voice. And if you don’t know what you sing just come along and try it out – you’ll be most welcome. The doors open at 6.30pm for tea biscuits and a bit of chat\, then we begin singing at 7pm with a warm up. \n“All my life I’ve loved the way that singing and songs can raise you up and make you feel better about being alive; the way that the right song at the right time can make you feel human and connected to the world. DESCRIPTION:With John Mark Harrison US\, Brendan Taaffe US and Ali Burns \nThere are a very few places left on this Residential Weeknd – mainly in shared rooms and dorms or camping. For info regarding prices and availability please email hello@jessicaboatright.uk \nAn intensive weekend of singing with Ali Burns (Scotland)\, Brendan Taaffe (USA) and John Harrison (USA).The tutors will bring new compositions each showcasing their own particular style. Friday’s workshop will begin at 5pm with a gentle introduction to the songs. After dinner we’ll have a short sing\, leaving time for socialising and getting to know each other. Saturday will have around 6 hours of workshop followed by dinner and more social time. On Sunday we’ll have time to work on all the songs again before closing the weekend at 4pm. \nThe event is open to anyone with a passion for harmony singing. Whether you sing in a choir or down the pub\, if you’re not a complete beginner to holding a harmony\, you are welcome. Songs will be taught at a pace that suits aural learners but written music will be available too. \nBrendan Taaffe and John Harrison from the US are both well loved and respected contemporary Shape Note composers\, steeped in the tradition but reinventing it for today’s singers. Between them they have a vast knowledge and love of the many traditions that make Americana. Ali Burns is one of the UKs leading songwriters for the community choir sector and brings her own folky style to a contemporary world.
