Do Not Carry a Heavy Heart
Written in 2019 while thinking about climate change and the transitions needed in order to try and stop global temperatures rising. I often feel overwhelmed by how impossible this feels on my own and wanted a song that would celebrate all our endeavour in a feeling of togetherness. The ‘dark mountain’ as a metaphor for climate change was borrowed from the Dark Mountain project begun in 2009 by Paul Kingsnorth and Dougald Hine: Dark Mountain Project: https://dark-mountain.net
Mood
Uplifting, powerful
Technical
The song has 2 riff sections which are simple and perfect for sharing at demonstrations or in a situation where you want to get people united fast. The middle section is more challenging but makes it into a performance song. It is written in 4 parts, SATB, but can easily be simplified into a 2 or 3 part version.

Lyrics
We are the turning tide x 4
Do not carry a heavy heart, do not carry such a heavy heart
Or the weight of the whole dark mountain, do not carry such a heart.
But tend the earth in all its glory; river deep and ocean wide
‘Cos on this blue pearl that charms the moon: We are the turning tide x 4 All and every one of us x 4
