May You See Diamonds

This was written for Nick Prater –  a gentle, gracious man and a wonderful songwriter, arranger and inspiring workshop facilitator. I wanted to write something very beautiful and fitting for him that would mark his passing from this world. The text and some harmony ideas had been circling around my head for a while before it suddenly ‘arrived’ like this one dark and rainy November night on a drive home. I added verse 2 with the angel and choir references especially for Nick as I love the idea of him still singing with us all in years to come!

Joyful but poignant

S,A,T, B with an A,B structure. 2 verses.

May you see diamonds (diamonds of the night)
In the darkness of the night
And may you shine, and may you shine
And may you shine among us in every earthly eye
May you hear angels (angels of the night)
In the darkness of the night
And may you sing, and may you sing
And may you sing among us in every earthly choir
